This 6-day Sumatra orangutan rainforest tour is ideal for European travelers looking for an authentic wildlife and cultural experience. The journey includes ethical orangutan trekking in Bukit Lawang, scenic highlands of Berastagi, a Mount Sibayak sunrise hike, and immersive Batak culture at Lake Toba.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Medan – Transfer to Bukit Lawang

Pick up from Medan Airport (KNO) or your hotel. Travel by private air-conditioned vehicle to Bukit Lawang (approximately 4 hours).
After check-in, enjoy free time to relax, swim in the river, or take a short walk to the nearby local village.

Day 2 – Orangutan Trekking in Sumatra Rainforest

At 09:00 AM, your certified English-speaking jungle guide will pick you up from the hotel or guesthouse. Begin a full-day rainforest trekking adventure in Gunung Leuser National Park, one of the best places in the world to see wild orangutans.

During the trek, you may encounter orangutans, gibbons, peacocks, squirrels, various monkey species, tropical birds, insects, and rainforest plants. Lunch and fresh fruit are served in the jungle before returning to Bukit Lawang.

Day 3 – Bukit Lawang – Berastagi Highlands

After breakfast, depart for Berastagi (5–6 hours drive). Along the way, stop to visit Lumbhini Natural Park and the local fruit market.
Overnight stay in Berastagi, surrounded by cool mountain air.

Day 4 – Mount Sibayak Sunrise – Lake Toba – Samosir Island

Early morning departure at 04:00 AM to hike Mount Sibayak and enjoy sunrise from the volcano summit.
Continue the journey toward Lake Toba, stopping at the impressive Sipiso-piso Waterfall.
Arrive at Lake Toba in the afternoon, cross by ferry to Samosir Island, and stay overnight.

Day 5 – Samosir Island Cultural Tour

After breakfast, start a tour around Samosir Island. Visit Ambarita Village to see the ancient stone chairs, then continue to Simanindo Village to explore the Batak Museum and watch a traditional Batak dance performance at 10:30 AM.

After the show, visit a local village to see the making of Ulos (traditional Batak woven cloth). Optional lunch before returning to your accommodation in the afternoon.

Day 6 – Samosir Island – Medan Airport

After breakfast, transfer back to Medan Hotel or Kuala Namu International Airport (KNO) for departure.
