5 Days Orangutan & Elephant Trekking Tour

Bukit Lawang – Tangkahan, North Sumatra

Explore the Sumatran rainforest, meet wild orangutans in Bukit Lawang, and enjoy an unforgettable elephant washing experience in Tangkahan. This eco-adventure tour is perfect for nature and wildlife lovers.

DAY 1 – KUALA NAMU INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT / MEDAN HOTEL → BUKIT LAWANG

Upon arrival at Kuala Namu International Airport or pickup from your Medan hotel, our driver will transfer you to Bukit Lawang.

The journey takes approximately 3–4 hours, passing through Binjai town and traditional villages.

Arrival in Bukit Lawang, hotel check-in, and free time to relax.

DAY 2 – ORANGUTAN SUMATRA RAINFOREST TREKKING (DAY 1)

After breakfast, trekking begins at around 09:00 AM. Before entering Gunung Leuser National Park, you will receive a short briefing from our certified English-speaking jungle guide.

During the trek, the guide will explain:

• Tropical rainforest ecosystem

• Wildlife and medicinal plants

• Various plants, trees, and flowers

You may encounter Sumatran orangutans (Pongo abelii) and other wildlife such as monkeys, birds, and insects.

Jungle Lunch

Enjoy a traditional Indonesian jungle picnic lunch, including:

• Fried rice

• Fresh tropical fruits: pineapple, watermelon, banana, orange, and passion fruit

After lunch, continue trekking toward the jungle campsite.

Afternoon & Evening Activities

• Swimming in the river

• Relax with tea or coffee

• Dinner at the campsite

• Campfire, card games, and social time

• Optional fishing if weather permits

Overnight in the jungle – a truly authentic rainforest experience.

DAY 3 – ORANGUTAN TREKKING (DAY 2) & TUBE RAFTING

After breakfast, explore the area around the campsite for 2–3 hours, or relax by the riverside to observe wildlife. Optional visit to a beautiful waterfall.

Jungle Lunch

• Noodle soup

• Fresh fruit salad

After lunch, enjoy traditional tube rafting back to Bukit Lawang village.

Return to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for leisure.

DAY 4 – BUKIT LAWANG → TANGKAHAN (ELEPHANT EXPERIENCE)

After breakfast (around 09:30 AM), drive to Tangkahan, approximately 2 hours by car. Along the way, enjoy views of:

• Oil palm plantations

• Scenic countryside panoramas

Arrival in Tangkahan around 12:00 PM, walk to the lodge and enjoy lunch.

Afternoon Activities

• Swim in the clean and refreshing river

• Visit the natural hot spring

• Cliff jumping from a large rock (optional)

• Walk along the river to visit waterfalls

• Explore Butterfly Beach, where colorful butterflies can often be seen

Elephant Washing Experience

Around 15:00, transfer to the elephant conservation center.
At 15:30, participate in an unforgettable elephant bathing experience in the river for about 1 hour.

After the activity, return to your hotel in Bukit Lawang.

DAY 5 – BUKIT LAWANG → AIRPORT / MEDAN HOTEL

After breakfast, transfer back to Kuala Namu International Airport or your hotel in Medan.
